Maybe you think that brushing your hair everyday can cause hair loss or a greasy look but it is quite the opposite.
Daily brushing is recommended to look after your hair and make it look tidy and neat.
This habit will bring many benefits like shaping and cleaning it from dust and impurities but it will also give it volume and brightness. The most important thing is that it will prevent the hair from entangling.
Having good looking hair means that you should know how to brush it correctly, for example not all brushes and combs are useful for all different types of hair.
So, the purpose of this article is to explain how to brush your hair correctly and discover the benefits of doing so in the right way.
Choose the right brush: For each type of hair, there are brushes of different materials that are more suitable than others, so the first thing to do is to choose a right quality brush or comb, depending on the length and type of your hair.
For long curly hair, the best choice is a comb and a brush made of a wooden base with wide bristles.
For straight and smooth hair, it is better to use brushes that have bristles with rounded tips and a ceramic body. And for short hair, the best option would be the brushes and combs with narrow bristles.
Brushing: Apart from the materials you use in your hair brush, it is very important to brush your hair everyday, but to get really good results, you should brush it at least twice a day.
This will result in healthy and perfectly disentangled hair. It can be once in the morning and then again before going to bed. The brushing at night is quite important to take away all the tangles formed during the day.
It doesn´t have to be a long process, even about a minute or so of brushing is quite enough depending on the length and condition of your hair of course.
Brushing when wet: It is very important not to untangle your hair or brush ruthlessly when wet, at least not with a traditional brush, because this can make it break easily.
The best way to untangle and brush your hair immediately out of the shower is by using a wide-tooth comb. This way you can detangle your hair without any damage and then gradually change to a fine comb or hair brush.
Gently untangle: If you have long hair, first start to untangle the ends, and once these are untangled, go up to the neck level and divide your hair in two or three strands of hair before getting to the top of your head.
Finish the brushing from the roots to the end, so the natural fat from your scalp will give a better shiny look.
Massage your scalp: Brushing your hair gently and calmly everyday gives your scalp a very relaxing and enjoyable massage.
It is also a healthy treatment for your hair since it will boost your blood micro-circulation which can stimulate the growth of your hair.
Also, brushing and massaging will soothe the scalp, get rid of impurities and spread the capillary grease all over the hair, making it look shiny and with volume.
No more frizz: If you use a plastic brush, maybe you can have a bit of frizz after brushing. To avoid this, after washing your hair, you can immediately apply an anti frizz product.
There are a lot of products that will put your hair into its place after only using a few drops. A little trick is also not to style it in the bathroom or in areas with humidity.
Cleaning your brushes: I strongly recommend to maintain your brushes and combs clean and hygienic just as you would normally do the same for your hair.
After each use, you must remove the hairs which remain in the brush or comb.
They should also be washed frequently. You can leave them during the whole night in the water with a bit of soap without foam or a drop of degreasing product, and next day, clean them properly.
Finally, I recommend that you avoid practicing hair myths like “one hundred brushes before bed”. This can damage the capillary structure and it does not have any scientific proof. In any case, anything in excess is not good.
